Salt-Saline Tatoo Removal

This is a common and effective approach to lightening tattoos including permanent makeup tattoos. This method is nothing but “controlled scabbing.” It combines the science of osmosis with dry needling. There are many variations of this treatment but only trained permanent makeup artists should be able to perform these.

The first step of the treatment is similar to the process of traditional tattooing. A technician will tattoo a saline and salt solution or concentrated saltwater directly on top of any unwanted pigment or ink. These solutions act as bonding agents that draw the ink to the skin’s surface. This starts the process of the ink being drawn up and out of the skin into a scab. Once the scab falls off, the pigment will be lighter or completely gone.

This method is popular with artists who do not have access to lasers. The procedure is more potent than topical exfoliation. One session is equivalent to two months of topical exfoliation.

However, the drawback of this approach is that, generally, the rate of scarring is far higher than a laser as this causes damage to the epidermis.

A saline/salt treatment is safe for all skin types. It is ideal for people with darker skin, sensitive skin types, and people who have had an allergic reaction to the pigment used.

This removal technique has fewer risks of hypo/hyperpigmentation, blistering, and scarring than laser removal treatments. It is completely normal for the treated skin to appear slightly red or pink in the weeks following the procedure. However, this color gradually lightens as the new skin is reformed.

WHAT IS SALINE TATTOO REMOVAL?

Saline Tattoo Removal is a natural approach to tattoo removal. It is the least invasive and less painful form of tattoo removal. A natural saline solution called Li-FT is used, the solution is implanted with a machine over existing permanent makeup or small tattoos. Implanting the solution into the skin breaks up the healed pigment. This process lifts the pigment out of the skin via osmosis. As pigment rises to the surface, a scab will form, and will fall off as the removal area heals, thus revealing a lightened tattoo.

HOW DOES SALINE TATTOO REMOVAL WORK?

We use a saline solution with lemon seed and orange seed extract, which aids in fading pigment and exfoliation. It also contains aloe vera which is aids in skin conditioning and helps the healing process. This solution is implanted in the skin via osmosis. Osmosis is the tendency of a fluid, usually water, to pass through a semipermeable membrane into a solution where the solvent concentration is higher, thus equalizing the concentrations of materials on either side of the membrane (dictionary.com). Through this process, the pigment is lifted up and out of the skin. The scabs that form contain the trapped pigment, thus the pigment is removed when the scabs fall off, resulting in a lighter tattoo.
