LIP BLUSH

Lip Blushing is another weapon in our beauty arsenal designed to bring you to your best. It’s a semipermanent tattooing method designed to enhance the natural color and shape of your lips for one to two years. The result is a more pronounced shape and a color that looks as if it could be your own, but better. Now performed by aestheticians rather than traditional tattoo artists (as it was in decades past), lip blushing involves organic pigments and modern, digital tools that feature several needle configurations instead of one harsh setting. If you want to look like your lips have a little life during the work week, at the gym, picking up a coffee, running errands, and look “effortlessly put-together,” lip blushing is the move.

Process

After you’ve told us your desired lip color and we mix up the perfect shade, we start by applying a potent numbing cream to your lips. Because the (most) lips have some of the most porous skin on the body, the numbing cream absorbs really well, making for a painless procedure. Once the lips are numb, we precisely outline the lips to achieve the perfect shape. Using a method called pixelating, the aesthetician deposits small, undetectable dots of pigment to line and shade. We move the needle across your lips delicately and accurately several times and all you will feel is pressure. The entire process could anywhere between two to three hours.

Lip Blush for Dark Lips:

If your lips are dark, purple or hyperpigmented and you want to receive a lip blush procedure, please read:

If you are considering permanent lip shading to conceal your hyperpigmentation, be aware that hyperpigmentation may cause the tattoo pigment to not retain its color and may require touch-ups to assure the color is uniform.

You will need at least 2 sessions. For the first session, we will apply a bright orange color to your lips. If we will tattoo any other color in the first session, there will be no retention and there could be a risk of darkening your hyperpigmentation. Nude colors will not stay or cover dark pigmentation. Therefore, on our first session we will cancel out the cool tones in the lips with a warm toned color (orange). When healed, the lips will have a beigey pink color and most, if not all, of the hyperpigmentation will be covered.

During the second session we may have to repeat the first step, depending on how well the hyperpigmentation is covered from the first session. If the lips healed nicely and all of the hyperpigmentation is gone, then on the second session we will use a bright red to get a natural pink tone.

Before the appointment, we will explain all details regarding the procedure and show pictures of results that can be expected. Those with dark lips may need more sessions for them to achieve desired result but will not be charged for additional touch up.

Darker toned lips are more difficult to work with; typically, the skin is more thick and tough for permanent makeup, which is gentle technique. Many lip blush technicians will not work with darker lips. However, we know how to work with these lips properly and have the right pigments, technique and machine to get beautiful results.

FAQs

How long does it last?

The durability of the treatment depends on the person, but on average, the pigment lasts about 2 years. Color retention depends on skin type, age, aftercare, sun exposure, use of certain products, pigments used, the immune system, medications, etc. Touch ups are recommended once every 1-2 years to prevent natural fading.

Does it hurt?

Clients are numbed prior to procedure, so it is quite comfortable and relatively pain free.

How long is the healing process?

The lips are more prone to swelling during treatment. If this should occur, swelling will quickly fade and will disappear totally within two days. This soft technique we use ensures the lips will heal quickly and with minimal discomfort. Many people do experience some dryness for three to four days following the procedure, but this can be alleviated with a moisturizing lip cream. After a few days, your lips will be back to their normal texture and health.

Will it look like lipstick?

Lip Blush does not replace your lipstick but gives your lips an enhanced natural tint.

The color density may appear stronger at first than you anticipated, but this will fade after three to four days too.

 Medications

If you are prone to herpes or cold sore breakouts, you will need to take your antiviral medications preventatively for a couple days before procedure and a few days after.
